Our Story

“It was obvious that your students were prepared to succeed in a constantly evolving diverse world, that your educational institution has a deep responsibility to deliver quality education to students in all aspects of life” concluded Dr. Gregory Hudnall, Northwest Accreditation Team Leader, in his email addressed to the school after the team’s initial full team on-site visit way back April of 2013. This explicit remark from a distinguished international accreditor and educator seems obvious to have a likely effect towards the school’s continuing pursuance in making notable achievements and developments through the years.

Traversing a decade threshold as a learning institution, SUNLIGHT INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (SLIS) has a well deserved reputation for delivering a high quality education program. Its central focus is to develop students by providing them a safe learning environment and by constantly improving academic standards for excellence using communication and information technologies. It is committed to the vision of stimulating achievements, raising aspirations, enriching partnerships, developing teaching and learning to the extra-curricular opportunities.

The school is now located in Olayah District, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This site is a growing financial district situated in the northern side of the city which allows easy access to commercial centers, medical establishments, government offices and recreational areas. The rapid success of the institution inspired the administration for expansion. It established ANA EBDAA EDUCATIONAL COMPANY consists of Sunlight International School in Olayah, Curriculum Innovation International School in Azizia and Nobel Sons International School in Alshefa District Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Today Educational COmpany has 1300 students from various nationalities such as Egyptian, Syrian, Palestinian, Jordanian, Sudanese, Eritrean, Lebanese, Moroccan, Kenyan, Tanzanian, South African, Yemeni, Filipinos and others. The school would not have excelled this far without rising from humble beginnings. Established in 1999 as Manar Al Shams International School in Al Solaimaniah District by group of educators, it provided Filipino expat children an avenue for learning. It initially offered Kindergarten to Grade 4 Courses with 150 students. Though a nationality-based-institution at first, the school’s sustained academic novelty, progress and success through the years inspired some expat parents to enroll their children in the institution.

Acknowledging the growing population of multi racial students, the school opted in 2005 to adopt an American curriculum catering the educational needs of students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 this time. In 2010, the school assumed the name SUNLIGHT INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, the English translation of the Arabic name Manar Al Shams accordingly. With an ever-increasing demand from parents , the school decided to open grades 10 in the same year, and eventually grades 11 and 12 a year after. After years of untiring quest and perseverance for scholastic excellence, SLIS aimed for global recognition and went through a five year accreditation cycle. The school embarked on an 18month self study process as part of its quest to achieve full accreditation status with this much-respected organization, the NORTHWEST ACCREDITATION COMMISSION, one of the oldest regional accreditation associations in United States acknowledged by the US Department of Education as the sole agency to award accreditation to educational institutions. Month after the initial full team onsite-visit on the 2nd and 3rd day of April 2013, SLIS was awarded CERTIFICATE of ACCREDITATION by the Commission recognizing its continuous effort for promoting and maintaining a well-balanced educational program and for meeting or exceeding standards considered essential for quality education .Out of 50 schools accredited around the world, SLIS was remarked as one of the bests performing educational institution.

The team leader emphasized his personal commendation on SLIS contribution to transformative education geared towards continuous excellence and lifelong learning skills and competencies. The school’s unwavering commitment to continues improvement had its ACCREDITATION renewed on April 2018 by AdvancED ( COGNIA) after a successful documentation of compliance with the current standards. The obligation to continuous improvement is a dynamic effort, consistently requiring attention and revision. For the school to continually meet its mission in a committed fashion, SLIS has established a values-based framework supported by the following foundational core Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, and a strong partnership with the Community of Stakeholders. Granted the second ACCREDITATION status, SLIS has remained steadfast in its MISSION to provide a learning environment where students are encouraged to reach their maximum potential and develop into responsible, educated and productive citizens who are able to meet the challenges of an ever changing global environment. It also offers a full array of services to ensure academic excellence in a changeable society through using unique instructional strategies and modern cutting-edge-technology.
